New Jersey Optometrist Prescription Blanks Have Changed

On Wednesday, January 13, 2016 all New Jersey print shops licensed to print prescription blanks were ordered by the Attorney General’s Office to stop ordering and printing of all OD – Optometrist – prescription blanks because of changes made in the warning box.

The old warning box read:”NOT VALID FOR SCHEDULE II CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES. VALID FOR TOPICAL PHARMACEUTICAL AGENTS (IF TPA CERTIFIED) AND PRESCRIPTION EYEWEAR ONLY.”

The new box reads: “NOT VALID FOR SCHEDULE II CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES, EXCEPT FOR HYDROCODONE – CONTAINING PRODUCTS.”

This change is meant to cause less confusion in the healthcare community on what an optometrist can or can’t prescribe.

When the New Print Shop received notification from the State regarding this change, we immediately informed all our customers in the eye care community. We then sent our new template to the State for review and permission to print the new script. Within 48 hours we were approved to print the optometrist blanks again.

By working quickly we’ve been able to continue with our orders at little stress or delay for our optometrists and their staff. New Print Shop works hand-in-hand with all our customers in informing them on all NJ State prescription blank laws and regulations.
